HHC Effects Explained

HHC vs THC

In recent years there has been an explosion of hemp-derived psychoactive cannabinoids on the scene.  It’s a lot to keep track of, and it can be difficult to remember which cannabinoid does what.  So, if HHC is something you’re interested in trying, or you’re just curious, read on to learn about the effects of HHC.  If you decide to take the plunge and feel those effects for yourself, you can experience them with our HHC disposable vapes, HHC prerolls, or gummies.

What is HHC?

Before discussing how HHC affects those who use it, it’s probably a good idea to understand what exactly HHC is.  HHC, or hexahydrocannabinol, was initially synthesized in the 1940s by American chemist Roger Adams.  By adding two hydrogen atoms to THC, he managed to convert it to HHC.  This process is called hydrogenation, and is similar to the way margarine is made from vegetable oil.

This extra hydrogen also makes HHC more shelf-stable than THC.  So if you tend to take a while to burn through your supply, this is the cannabinoid for you.  HHC is less sensitive to oxygen, heat, and light, which means you can stock up without worrying about racing against expiration.

Most HHC on the market today is made from hemp-derived CBD in order to adhere to the 2018 Farm Bill.  This bill legalized hemp on a federal level.  Because the HHC is being made from hemp, it is technically legal.  Consequently, individual states have been cracking down on this loophole and writing their own laws.  Be sure to stay up to date on the current laws in your state.

Potency:

In order to understand HHC effects, it’s helpful to see where it falls on the scale compared to other cannabinoids.  HHC lies in between delta 8 and delta 9 in terms of potency.  It is estimated to be 80% as strong as delta 9.  Sadly, no studies have been conducted with human test subjects and HHC.  However, in a 2007 study, scientists found that when administered to mice, HHC displayed similar effects to delta 9, with weaker pharmacological effects.

HHC Effects:

Like THC, HHC is a psychoactive cannabinoid.  Since HHC is so similar to THC, it is possible that it may have similar medical benefits, although more research is needed to solidify these claims.  As far as what to expect when enjoying HHC, one of the most commonly reported effects is euphoria.  And, since HHC is “less intense” than delta 9, this euphoria is not accompanied with the same level of anxiety and paranoia that many often experience when smoking weed.

HHC interacts with the same receptors as delta 8 and delta 9.  These are the CB1 and CB2 receptors that are part of our bodies endocannabinoid system.   (Check this out if you want to learn more about how all of that works!).  This interaction is responsible for the high that we feel.  As a result, you can expect to experience similar auditory and visual perception changes that you would have with delta 9.

My Experience:

I personally find HHC effects to be comparable to delta 9, but with some key differences.  I find the high to be mentally stimulating, but less all-encompassing than delta 9.  HHC is definitely preferable to me for day-time smokes when I have tasks to do.  I enjoy a nice creative buzz, and I don’t experience the lethargic burnout that I often get with delta 9.  If I smoke a lot of HHC, it’s honestly difficult to detect a difference between that high and a THC high.

In Conclusion:

So, if you’re on the lookout for a cannabinoid that is shelf-stable, and doesn’t give you a heaping dose of paranoia with each use, HHC is for you.  Whether delta 9 is legal in your state or not, HHC is a great alternative to add into the mix.  I personally love that I don’t feel as drained after the high wears off, and I can still have a perfectly productive day with HHC.
