You may have heard about the entourage effect before. But when was this phenomenon discovered? What does it mean for you? And how can you experience it for yourself? Read on to learn everything you need to know. Feel free to check out our glossary if you need a refresher on all of the terms.
The endocannabinoid system
In order to understand the entourage effect, we must first touch upon the endocannabinoid system. In the 1980s, researcher Allyn Howlett discovered cannabinoid receptors. More research lead to the distinction between CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors bind to THC, which result in the high we feel when we indulge in cannabis. CB2 receptors are found in our immune cells, and in the central nervous system. These receptors are responsible for regulating our bodies inflammation among other functions. The “body high” that we feel is a result of the way that cannabinoids bind to our CB2 receptors.
What does this mean?
While it may seem that our bodies were simply designed to be compatible with cannabis, it turns out that the phytocannabinoids found in cannabis and hemp simply mimic the endocannabinoids already present in our own bodies. This molecular similarity means that the way these cannabinoids interact with our CB1 and CB2 receptors is responsible for the way we feel when consuming hemp and cannabis products.
The entourage effect
The entourage effect was discovered in 1998 by who else but Raphael Mechoulam (read more about him here!) and fellow Israeli chemist Shimon Ben-Shabat. This phenomenon means that cannabinoids are more potent with the presence of terpenes and other cannabinoids. These components of cannabis and hemp work together synergistically to produce effects that are more effective than if a single cannabinoid were to be extracted and used alone. Basically, they work as an entourage to give you a more complex experience.
Terpenes
So according to these findings, products that contain terpenes and more than one cannabinoid will give you a better high. Lucky for you, our HHC disposable vapes are flavored with terpenes to give you that layered, calming experience (sort of similar to aromatherapy). Choose from Banana Cream, Zkittlez, Gorilla Glue, and Strawberry Yum to experience the entourage effect for yourself. Notice how the smell and flavor of the vape gives you a more immersive experience than if you were just consuming HHC on its own, sans-terps.
Multiple Cannabinoids
If multiple cannabinoids are what you crave, you’re in the right place. Many of our products contain CBG along with delta 8 or HHC. (Read more about CBG here!) CBG is pretty rare in fully grown hemp and cannabis plants, so we’ve done the hard part and given it to you ready to go in a convenient blunt or preroll. CBG is comparable to CBD in that it doesn’t really give you a high, but can potentially provide several other benefits that can enhance the high you’re experiencing from other cannabinoids (in our case delta 8 or HHC).
Ready to enjoy that multiple cannabinoid entourage effect? Our HHC prerolls are available in indica (tres leches flavor); sativa (pink lemonade flavor); or hybrid (orange creamsicle flavor). If delta 8 is more your speed, try our peach, or pineapple prerolls. In a group and don’t want to waste time rolling your own blunt? Check out our delta 8 blunts! Choose from Sour Diesel or Pineapple Haze if you’re looking for a sativa; hybrid lovers can opt for Blue Dream or Runtz; and indica indulgers can vibe out and relax with Purple Punch.
In Conclusion
To sum it all up, the entourage effect means that all the components of cannabis or hemp will work better together than alone. Think of it as the only positive example of a group project. Whether you’re looking to experience this for yourself with terpenes or multiple cannabinoids, we’ve got you covered. Choose from vapes, blunts, or prerolls and enjoy a more layered and satisfying high. Use our convenient online ordering with delivery straight to your door and experience the wonder of the entourage effect for yourself.
