Is HHC Psychoactive?

HHC

HHC is a cannabinoid that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years.  However, it’s not “new”.  If you haven’t tried HHC yet, you may be wondering: is HHC psychoactive?  Discover HHC’s origin story, its effects, and how it stacks up compared to other cannabinoids.

In the meantime, shop our selection of HHC blunts and prerolls.

What is HHC?

Before we delve into the specifics, let’s cover the basics.  HHC was first synthesized in the 1940s by American chemist Roger Adams.  Adams created this cannabinoid by adding hydrogen to THC.  This process of hydrogenation is also used to make margarine from vegetable oil.   Adding hydrogen decreases HHC’s ability to bind to the CB1 receptors.

A bind with the CB1 receptors, located primarily in the brain, produces a high.  While HHC doesn’t bind to these receptors as securely as THC, there is still a bind.  This means that HHC is psychoactive.

HHC vs THC

HHC is psychoactive, but less potent than THC.  However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  A less potent high could mean less burnout, paranoia, and anxiety.  Anecdotally, I have found HHC to be more stimulating than THC.  The high is a little more alert, and less sleepy than what I experience with THC.  This makes HHC the ideal cannabinoid for a daytime smoke.  Any time I still have items to cross off my list, HHC is an excellent choice.  I can feel relaxed, yet stay focused with a nice buzz going.

HHC’s potency is estimated to be between delta 8 and THC.  So, if you’re looking for a slightly more intense buzz than delta 8, without the intensity of THC, HHC might be your answer.

In addition to being a little less psychoactive than THC, HHC has a longer shelf life.  This means it is less prone to degradation from light, heat, and oxygen.  If you’re someone who likes to be prepared, you can stock up on our boxes of HHC blunts and prerolls without the worry of them going stale super quickly.

Why now?

If HHC has been around for so long, why are we just hearing about it now?  HHC’s recent soar in popularity is due to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill.  This bill legalized hemp on a federal level.  Legally, hemp is defined as cannabis containing .3% or more delta 9 THC.  Most, if not all, of the HHC on the market today is derived from hemp.  While it is legal federally, individual states have been making laws of their own.  Definitely stay up to date with what’s going on in your state before indulging.

Ready to test HHC’s psychoactivity for yourself?

You don’t need to be a sea sponge to feel at home with pineapple.  Our HHC Pineapple Haze blunts will have you soaking up the relaxation, while keeping you stimulated enough to stay on task.  These blunts are a sativa varietal, laced with CBG to help you experience the legendary entourage effect.  CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, comparable to CBD.  We use it to spice up our blunts and prerolls so you get more than just HHC.

If you prefer prerolls, we have one for every occasion.  Sativa stoners can start their day with the refreshing sweet and tart Pink Lemonade HHC prerolls.  If indica is more ideal, then indulge in the decadent flavor of Tres Leches.  Craving the best of both worlds?  Then a hybrid is what you want for your next high.  Enjoy the nostalgic summer flavor of Orange Creamsicle hybrid.  Like our blunts, all of our HHC prerolls are infused with CBG.  Additionally, you can stock up on your favorites with our boxes of blunts and prerolls without the concern of them going bad due to the long shelf life of HHC.

The bottom line

HHC is psychoactive.  Though it attaches to our CB1 receptors less securely than THC, there is still an attachment, so a high is produced.  In terms of potency, HHC lies somewhere between delta 8 and THC.  I personally find the high to be stimulating, euphoric, and relaxing.  Even better, HHC’s long shelf life means you can stock up and be prepared for anything.  If you’re ready to try HHC, DVNT is your one stop shop for reliable, lab tested blunts and prerolls.  Whether you’re looking for an indica, sativa, or hybrid, we’ve got you covered with HHC for every occasion.
