What is HHC?

Still haven’t tried HHC?  (Or if you have, do you actually know what it is?). HHC was synthesized in the 1940s by American chemist Roger Adams when he added hydrogen molecules to THC.  This process is known as hydrogenation, and is also the method used to produce margarine from vegetable oil.  The hydrogen molecules decrease the potency, making HHC not quite as strong as THC.  On the flip side, the hydrogen also increases the stability of the HHC.  This means HHC is less vulnerable than THC to damage from external factors such as light, oxygen, and heat.

Today’s HHC is most often made from hemp-derived cannabinoids, such as delta 8.  The reason you’ve been seeing an influx of different cannabinoids like HHC in recent years is due to the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill.  This bill legalized hemp on a federal level, which means that many different cannabinoids suddenly became legal as long as they are derived from hemp.  Certain states have since implemented their own legislation to close this lucky loophole.  Check out this guide to learn about the HHC laws in your state (current as of August 2023).

What is sativa?

One of the main ways that hemp and cannabis are categorized is by sativa, indica, or hybrid.  Effects often associated with sativa strains include euphoria, creativity, energy, and alertness.  The experience is generally considered to be more of a “mental high” than a physical high.  In contrast, indicas are categorized as more relaxing, sleepy strains.
