What is HHC?
For anyone that needs a refresher, HHC is one of many cannabinoids that became legal as a result of the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill legalized hemp on a federal level. Once scientists realized they could produce intoxicating cannabinoids like HHC and delta 8 from hemp, things really became interesting. HHC is made by adding hydrogen molecules to THC. This process, known as hydrogenation, is also used to make margarine from vegetable oil. Today, most, if not all, of the HHC on the market is made from hemp-derived delta 8 THC.
Individual states have been cracking down on the cannabinoid craze sweeping the country. Some have implemented laws to regulate the unchecked industry, while others have explicitly banned intoxicating hemp products altogether. Not sure what the legislation is like in your state? Check out this guide (current as of 8/15/23). The laws are constantly changing, so definitely stay informed.
HHC Effects
The best way to decide if HHC for recreational use is right for you is to understand its effects. HHC is not as potent as traditional delta 9 THC. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though. A milder high means less potential for anxiety and paranoia. The high is relaxing, yet mentally stimulating. High Times states that HHC’s effects “…are generally gentler compared to Delta 9 THC. Many users find the HHC experience to be more clear-minded, concentrated, and less overwhelming, potentially leading to fewer common side effects. This friendly characteristic of HHC makes it an appealing option for those seeking a milder experience”.
A more approachable, mentally stimulating high? What’s not to love? Other characteristics of an HHC high include “elevated mood, feelings of euphoria, altered visual and auditory perception, changes in heart rate and body temperature, slowed reaction times, [and] slowed perception of time”. HHC has all the potential for a relaxing, blissful high.
Like any good thing, HHC does come with a set of mild side effects. These side effects are pretty similar to those associated with cannabis; although, since HHC is less potent, there is less potential for anxiety and paranoia. According to Leafwell, some of the side effects you may experience with HHC include “nausea, dry mouth, red eyes, increased heart rate, increase in appetite, anxiety, paranoia, insomnia and/or sleep disturbances”. On the flip side, users report that HHC reduces nausea, while others say it helps with sleep. You may just have to try it for yourself to determine how it will affect you.
My Own Experience
Unfortunately, there is little to no research on humans regarding HHC. What we know about it in terms of effects is drawn from anecdotal evidence, and reasonable conclusions that can be drawn due to its structural similarity to more well-known cannabinoids, like THC. I can’t tell you how you personally will feel, but I can share how I feel while enjoying HHC for recreational use.
Personally, I find the HHC high to be uplifting and mentally stimulating. Because it’s not as potent as delta 9, I still feel super capable of powering through my activities without my mind feeling totally out of focus. However, if I smoke enough HHC, the effects are pretty much identical to delta 9. It really is a case of choosing your own adventure, and I appreciate that I can very easily curate my experience by choosing a larger or smaller dose.
What I love about our HHC prerolls is that I can choose a different strain for each time of the day. I enjoy starting my day with a sativa, and the sweet yet tart Pink Lemonade always delivers. These are ideal for gym sessions, writing, errands, cleaning, you name it, anything that requires an energetic and uplifting buzz. When I’m ready for a more leisurely pace, the Orange Creamsicle Hybrids are where it’s at. These are my favorite for things like yoga, reading, beach days, really anything I do that’s a form of self care. At the end of the day, when it’s time to unwind, I opt for the indica. Tres Leches is the perfect sweet treat to savor before bed, and I relish in the relaxed feeling that washes over me.
No matter what life throws at you, there’s an HHC product for that. The high is truly enjoyable whether you’re a delta 9 smoker or not. Peruse our epic selection of HHC for recreational use, and enjoy the blissful effects for yourself.
