What is THCA?
THCA is a naturally occurring cannabinoid, and the acidic form of THC. In its raw, original form, THCA is not psychoactive. Through the addition of heat, however, THCA becomes psychoactive, because it is converted to THC.
THCA becoming THC is easily explained. THCA contains a carboxyl ring that THC does not have. This ring renders its molecular structure incompatible with our CB1 receptors. These receptors are part of our endocannabinoid system. An attachment with these receptors produces a high; since THCA doesn’t attach, there is no high. However, THCA’s structure changes through a process known as decarboxylation. When heat is added to THCA (from a lighter, the oven, or a vape), THCA loses its carboxyl ring. Through this process, THCA becomes the famously psychoactive THC.
Effects
If you were to consume THCA in its raw, original form, you would not experience a high. In order to do this, you would have to ingest raw weed (perhaps by grinding it up in a smoothie), or enjoy a specially made tincture. After heat becomes involved, the THCA ceases to exist and becomes THC. If you’ve ever made edibles, then you know it’s essential to put your flower in the oven before making your cannabutter or oil to activate the THC. When you smoke THCA, you’re doing the same thing, but more quickly. By the time you inhale from one of our THCA vapes, you’ll be inhaling THC.
Assuming that heat has been added, you can expect to experience the same effects as THC. These can include euphoria, altered sense of time, increased appetite, mental stimulation, relaxation, and drowsiness. As far as side effects are concerned, you can expect the typical red eyes and dry mouth that usually come with smoking weed, with possible paranoia and anxiety.
Legality
THCA is legal on a federal level, as long as it is derived from hemp. Legally, hemp is defined as cannabis containing .3% or less delta 9 THC. This is thanks to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized hemp on a federal level. The intent of this bill was to increase hemp production for goods like clothing, rope, and food. However, since its passing, we have seen a whole new market emerge. Hemp-derived cannabinoids can be found seemingly everywhere.
Since the passing of the farm bill, individual states have responded with legislation of their own. Some states have affirmed the federal law, others have imposed bans, and still others have instituted regulations governing these “new” cannabinoids. Several states have implemented something called “total THC”, Total THC takes into account the amount of THC present after decarboxylation when determining what is and isn’t considered hemp. Definitely stay aware of the laws in your state before indulging in THCA.

The bottom line
THCA is an excellent cannabinoid for those looking for something more potent than HHC or delta 8. The appeal of THCA can be best explained by the process of decarboxylation. Once heat is added, THCA converts to THC, and you can expect to feel the traditional effects that you already know and love. Whether you’re new to THCA or have enjoyed it already, our THCA vapes have you covered for a delightful, flavorful, and convenient experience.
